The inaugural exhibition of Spectral Matter took place at theThe Wellington B. Gray Gallery at East Carolina University, in conjunction with the 2020 Material Topics Symposium: Contemporary Clarity 20/20 January 6th-24th 2020
The exhibition, Slippery and Subversive highlighted artworks which blurred the lines between binary concepts of identification through a queer lens. Work selected for the exhibition took a position of ambiguity, slippage, and deconstruction as an avenue to redefine the relationship between body and object. The collective artists for this project provided a range of histories, categories, systems, and narratives linked by a common interest in adornment, objecthood, and utility.
